Bhartnatyam dancer Alarmel Vall’s Lasya Kavya

It was an evening that wil be remembered for a long time. India International Centre, New Delhi cleebrated the release of Lasya Kavya( poetry of graceful dance) on November 5, 2011. The seventy-minute long film revolved around the life and devotion of Bhartnatyam dancer Alarmel Valli. One of the most celebrated dancers of our times, Valli holds the distinction of being the leading proponent of the Pandanallur tradition of Bharatnatyam. She is also the youngest dancer to be conferred with Padma Shri Award in 2004.
This documentary film is directed by young director Sankalp Mishra. Amidst the presence of senior art lovers, Mishra shared that the 18 month long journey of the production of the film was an enriching experince for him. Extreme care was taken from the pre production to the post production stage to maintain high standards of production value.
The film mesmerised each and every one. Each shot of the film was well chosen, script written with utmost care and special attention was given to the flow of the story. Overall the entire film had the most beautiful rythm and thus, it enthralled the audience.
The programme was attended by many dignitaries including Valli’s husband and former Secretary I & B Ministry Bhaskar Ghose and Sunit Tandon, famous media personality and Director, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi.
