Srinagar, March 21 (Scoop News) –Sonawar, the uptown quarter of Srinagar city in Kashmir, Thursday lost its oldest man, Muhammad Siddiq Parray, at the age of 106. Parray had lived through the times of two Dogra Maharajas, Pratap Singh and Hari Singh, and was a witness to a century of Kashmir’s tumultuous political history. He has penned his yet to be published book in which he has depicted the political and social life of Kashmir during the last century.

          The end came peacefully at 5 A.M. at the Shivpora residence of his eldest son, Ghulam Qadir, when his children, grand children and great-grand children were on his bedside.

          Born in March 1907, Parray had served in the revenue department of Kashmir where he wielded influence and respect as a trusted PRO to the Financial Commissioner. He retired in 1963 as the Office Superintendent of the Revenue Training College.

          Parray was known for his humility, helpful attitude, good manners and sense of dress and lived an active retired life for half a century. His death has been widely mourned. He is survived by six sons and three daughters, five of whom are settled in the United States where he himself spent many years.

          His body was laid to rest at the Gupkar Graveyard near Kashmir Nursing Home at Sonawar. The congregational fateha will be held on Sunday at 10 A.M.
