Declare BGSBU as Tribal University: Gujjars

 

Jammu, August 12 (Scoop News) – Stressing upon the Jammu and Kashmir Government to declare Baba Ghulam Shah Badashah University (BGSBU) as ‘BGSB State Tribal University’ , the Gujjar Bakerwal Schedule tribe communities  today demanded to develop  this  premier educational institution on modern lines by granting it more financial autonomy on the prototype of Indra Gandhi National Tribal University,  Madhya Pradesh.

 

In this connection –the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation – a frontal organisation of Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today wrote a letter to State Chief Minister , Omar Abdullah   who is also the Chancellor of the BGSBU and urged upon to save this dream institution by granting it the tribal university status and reserve 50% jobs and seats (admissions) for Poonch -Rajouri people.

 

Giving details , Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary of Tribal foundation stated a seven point letter in shape of a memorandum signed by various dignitaries ,  was sent  to State Chief Minister (Chancellor of BGSBU)  and   immediate intervention of the state authorities was sought on various demands  as the BGSBU is derailing from its set path due to numerous reasons.

 

The letter reads that more that 60% population of twin border districts Poonch and Rajouri belongs to Schedule Tribe category and there are a number of schemes operational  with government of India especially with Tribal Ministry to develop such type of educational institution in a big way located in areas where sizeable Tribal population is residing.

 

The letter further reads that other identities of Poonch Rajouri districts and other parts of the state can  also take the benefits of all schemes  if the BGSB University was to  declared Tribal University.

 

The letter said Poonch and Rajouri areas are very rich in respect of   art, culture, language, customs and medicine systems and the University authorities are not paying heed  towards preservation and promotion of local ethos including the development of Gojri and Pahari languages spoken in the areas.The letter pleaded to establish local languages department in the University.

 

The letter  pleaded to reserve  50% of seats for the candidates of  twin border districts to promote the avenues for higher education and research facilities for locals  as it will defiantly trim down the feeling of discriminations among various  groups of Poonch Rajouri.

 

The letter further pleaded to implement reservation fgor STs  in recruitment and admissions  in BGSB University.
