In the fight, medical officials have said that about three Palestinian militants were killed early on. According to Israeli military officials, two soldiers were wounded. According to the report, over thirty tanks have been involved in the fighting.
Currently, Gaza is run and controlled by the militant group known as Hamas. They had taken over the region in June after a violent struggle with Fatah. According to BBC, this is the largest military incursion into Gaza for months. Two weeks prior, there was the meeting in Annapolis for a new round of peace talks.
Wednesday, both Israel and the Fatah-led Palestinian delegation will hold the first round of talks since the Annapolis meeting. The talks are to restart the peace process between Israel and Palestine.
The incursion isn’t far from Sufa which is used regularly by militants to attack Israelis with rockets and mortar shells.
Traffic was cut on the main road by the Israeli military force. They had encountered fierce resistance from the Palestinian militants. Many were detained in house-to-house raids by the Israeli troops according to residents.
While Hamas won the parliamentary elections in 2006, they have been excluded from talks. Hamas does not recognize the state of Israel.
