In Matthew 12: 24-25 The scribes and Pharisees accuse Jesus of being Be el ze bub the prince of devils, for casting out demons on the Sabbath, and Jesus points out to them that Satan would not cast out satan, as he would then be divided against himself. Then at Matthew 12: 37 the scribes and Pharisees are told that: "For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."
The scribes and Pharisees ask Jesus for a sign from Jesus, trying to trap him to offer some sort of proof that He was the fore-told Messiah, the Christ, and He gives his reply in Matthew 12:39-40 "An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall be no sign given to it but the sign of Jonas. For Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."
See Jonah 1: 15, Jesus draws a comparison between He Jesus having the sins of man heaped upon himself, to ransom man, and to fulfill the Father’s will, and having the Father turn away from him, to Jonah being dumped into the see, by his shipmates in order save them from perishing at sea.
See Jonah 2: 1-10; Through the reference Jesus makes, to the story of Jonah also comes a hidden revelation to Jesus, being that Jesus, was covered by the sins of mankind and treated as a cast out by God , going into the bowels of the earth covered with man’s corruption to prove to satan, that Jesus had indeed fulfilled Bible prophesy and redeemed man, and then on the third day Jesus is resurrected sinfree, once again and ready to be with Our Father once again.
See Jonah: 3: 1-5; Jonah is sent forth into Nineveh by God to preach God’s word and proclaim God’s compassion and does so. Even so Jesus rejoins His Apostles to prove that God is compassionate and has spared man from their sins, and Jesus instructs, and commissions His Apostles to spread the word of his resurrection and baptize throughout the world.
