According to authorities, nineteen people have been arrested in association with the child sex slavery ring. Arrests have been made in the Netherlands and five other countries. Other countries included both the United States and the United Kingdom. Many under aged Nigerian girls were trafficked and sent to parts of Europe. According to the authorities, the traffickers used “voodoo” as a means of gaining a mental hold over the children before they were smuggled into the racket.
In the Netherlands, this child sex slavery ring has been under investigation since the beginning of 2006. It all started from an investigation of the disappearance of over a hundred Nigerian children from the centers for those seeking asylum. Those children were found in France, Italy, and Spain where they were forced into prostitution.
Several arrests have been made in various cities across the Netherlands. All the perpetrators are Nigerian. They are currently detained in the United States, Ireland, and Europe. The people arrested are suspected of human-trafficking, getting involved in a criminal organization, fraud, money laundering, and the falsification of travel documents.
Authories explain that the victims were supplied with false travel documents, flight tickets, and instructions from the traffickers. They would be instructed to seek asylum upon arrival in Amsterdam.
The control over them would be easy because the minors were placed in open shelters. It is further explained that voodoo is used sometimes to keep kids in line. But in Nigeria, they are forced to take a vow to repay a so-called death in front of a voodoo priest.
Traffickers have exploited voodoo as a means of trafficking hundreds of children into sex-slavery.
