Words are so meaningless, so far off of pivotal that it scares me. But then, sometimes just one solitary word makes all the difference to someone who’s willing, conscientiously or not, to listen and process it. I guess it all depends on the person who’s hearing the words you have to say. They either get it, or they don’t. Sometimes it’s purely voluntary, and sometimes it’s not. Either way, there’s always someone who loses, and someone who gains. Someone who smiles and someone who cries. And for the probably hundreds upon hundreds of millions of people who cried themselves to sleep last night for some reason or loss or travesty, large or small, there were probably just as many people smiling as they drifted off in slumber and a completely uninterrupted R.E.M. cycle, happy and content with some sweet satisfaction or other.
