‘Always Natural’ But Not Here Forever. Holiday In The Maldives While You Can.
Maldives – Always Natural’ is the brand-new slogan which this archipelago of 1200 coral islands has adopted. It underscores the stunning beauty of this unique environment and I feel privileged to have visited.
Its calm, paradisiacal charm cannot be over stated and increased numbers of tourists now taking a holiday to the Maldives proves the point; tourist numbers were up by 17.6% in 2011. This fact alone demonstrates people are intrigued by the tropical forests, aquamarine waters and un-spoilt white sand beaches and the tranquillity.
This holiday destination favours those who enjoy contemplative pursuits, for example: snorkelling, scuba-diving and boat excursions which do little to disturb the atmosphere of calm and other worldliness. Everything is arranged to protect the fragile beauty of this archipelago which we know only too well will be transient as sea levels rise; personally I cannot bear the thought.
Many of the overwater and beach villas are constructed in a highly sympathetic and eco-friendly manner. It’s obvious this picturesque island intends to remain that way while maintaining its crown as the perfect location for honeymoons and weddings. The Maldives recently became ‘the world’s most Romantic destination’ according to the World Travel Awards. That’s why I chose it for my honeymoon last year and we often talk about our trip as it was so very special in every way.
I know relaxing spa breaks and just having quality time with family are great things to do too. After all, where better than to reacquaint yourself with loved ones and shed all work responsibilities and calls on your time, if not against the back drop of palm fringed beaches and lazy days?
We spent time sunbathing and relaxing and offset the lack of activity by some underwater exploration. We both developed quite an addiction to this ethereal environment and its astonishing allure; after all, seeing coral reefs and sea gardens for real is something truly unforgettable. The warm waters support a plethora of marine species including stingrays, sharks, angel fish and the mighty barracuda and there is something so special about being underwater.
If you are looking for a hotel to complement this environment, nestling into tropical vegetation and pristine beaches, the Hilton Maldives/ Iru Fushi Resort and Spa takes some beating. It was the hotel we chose and it really was quite perfect.
Its setting is unique and Noonu Atoll is virtually untouched, being a 45 minute seaplane journey from Male. If a pampering retreat from the stresses of everyday life, while overlooking the Indian Ocean, is what you really need right now, this luxury spa will not disappoint. If you need a honeymoon destination this fits the bill in every way. Your days can be filled with relaxing treatments and spas, by playing tennis when the sun sets on floodlit courts or taking part in a varied selection of water sports. I am looking at our photos as I write this and we took advantage of just about everything that was on offer.
At Iru Fushi we had the choice of water villas and suites which are the height of luxury. The Horizon water villa, for example even features glass panels so you never miss the floor show, as it were, from the waters below with not a hint of castanets or traditional costume in sight! This was a real highlight for us I have to admit and I actually miss it, even now!
Let’s face it, holidays to the Maldives are about luxury, nature and relaxation and everyone who visits needs to bear this in mind. Pursuits are gentle: alfresco dining under the stars, watching the sunset from a tranquil bar or lying by the pool with a refreshing cocktail are just some of the memories you will take with you from these paradise islands. Of course you can also jet ski in warm waters, exercise, fish, play racquetball, sightsee and windsurf.
You may well, for example wish to combine relaxation with a more frenetic stay in somewhere like Miami or perhaps you would prefer to island hop. Whatever appeals, whatever combination of dates, places and accommodation you desire, it’s certain a holiday to the Maldives will be a memorable part of the overall experience and as a place to honeymoon I couldn’t think of anywhere better. So catch it while you still can!
