Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia:
The new Malaysian Parliament convened today.
This is the first session since the General election. Many noted that winning the election is one thing and representing the people is another.
Anyway, Malaysians generally loved politics. They loved their politicians too.
Many observers, eager to listen at first hand how their so-called leaders championed their many causes. There are predictions abound that this session of the Legislature will be a very noisy affair. The reason cited being the large number of opposition members, the largest in the nation’s history.
Making up the numbers on the Government’s side are many new faces. Among them are second generation leaders from the same old family. They are sons and daughters of former ministers, seen cynically by the average Joe-in-the-street as guarding their inheritance.
The Opposition members are colourful too, in their own right. Several fiery orators are expected to showcase their ability. Many are new but the veterans like Karpal Sing, Kit Siang and Mat Sabu will surely prevailed.
On the National Front’s side there are veterans such as Bung Mokhtar Radin, Mohammad Aziz and Nazri Aziz. They can hold their own ground.
Members of the cabinet will surely feel the heat this time. They must be accountable. The grilling will be endless. They will envy those guys in the street who does not have to answer even if they committed numerous bumblings.
Some observers squirmed while saying that alllegations and accusations will fly freely among the benches.
This time around, the man in-charge or the Speaker is Pandikar Amin MUlia. He hailed from the state of Sabah, a proven man and expected to be in control.
To add colour to the occassion, the debate will be broadcasted live. Happy viewing.
