Mir Mohtesham Ali Khan, one of India’s leading body builders has notched up a bigger success at the recently held Musclemania World Championship at Las Vegas than reported earlier . Mohtesham Ali Khan, who hails from Hyderabad, has won Silver Medal in the heavyweight category as the Gold Medal winner from China Xi Jiang was disqualified after dope test by the Musclemania competition officials as he tested positive. Consequently Jheisonn Hurtado from Columbia went up one notch to become No. 1 and was given the Gold Medal. Mohtesham Ali Khan who came third, was upgraded to second position and given the silver medal.
According to the results put up on the Musclemania official website Brian McIsaac of USA has become the bronze medalist now. Mohtesham who has returned to India and was given a hero’s welcome by his fans and supporters said that his success at the internationally renowned competition was beyond his imagination.
“Initially I was nervous as I was coming on an international stage for the first time. It was so different from the stages in India and the other competitors were well trained and with high quality muscles. But later my confidence boosted as I kept telling my self I was not competing as an individual but I was doing for India, my country”, Mohtesham told this correspondent.
Mohtesham, who was honored by the Telangana Body Builders Association in Hyderabad for his achievement at Musclemania said that his next target was to compete at the Mr. Universe competition in America and bring more name and honor to the country. “I will start preparing for this prestigious competition immediately”, he said. However he said that he will be able to participate in the event only if he gets the financial backing from the government or the corporate sector. “It will cost about Rs 5 to 6 lakhs to participate in Mr. University and prepare for it and I don’t have that kind of money”, he said.
