Employees 2 day protest; Hectic parlays in progress

JAMMU AND KASHMIR: Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh Employees Association (JKLEA) and Jammu and Kashmir National Trade Union Front (JKNTUF) besides several others associations are heading more than four and half lakh employees who are fighting against government for not fulfilling their commitment already accepted. But difference of opinion and gap between the mindset of various organizational heads will certainly hamper the agitation launched by the employees and even could affect already announced strike on August 5th and 6th across.

However, leaders of employees are seen busy in lobbying for success of strike on August 5th state wide and on August 6th on all district headquarters to press the demands already lying with government for implementation. All Jammu, Kashmir Ladakh Employees Association, leaders Kulwant Singh, Balwan Singh and Balvinder Singh along with other leaders are busy in motivating employees by making awareness among them by clearing fog of misunderstanding between the groups. “We have meetings in all the districts and received good response so far. The only district remaining is Kathua where the employees and their leaders are to be taken in confidence” Kulwant Singh said and added that post cane charging on July 18th, leaders and employees have decided to observe two days pen down-tool down strike. (Kam Chood Hartal).

“Post April 12, 2010 things have changed all together. We were forced to call of strike due to non cooperation of certain employees association and now it is imperative for us to think twice before extending support with out proper consensus” Trade Union leader, Gafoor Dar said. He said that he and his association is always there to fight for employees and it was only today when a massive rally was taken out by daily wages of various departments in favor of their demand of regularization, here at Lal Mandi. Few government agents are ruining the cause of employees for their vested interests otherwise if four and half lakh employees unite and along with their families and relatives more than fifty lakh people would come on the roads, he added. Dar asked if more half of total population is against government then who voted to them in power. He said that some employees are agents of government and continue their trade even during election period and through bogus voting makes their masters happy, while scarifying cause of employees collectively.

Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), head Khursheed Alam while replying to a query said that employees well understand their genuine problems and also the cleverness of government. While expressing his expectations Alam said that the show would impressive and united. He urged upon the chief minister, Omar Abdullah to intervene personally to address the issues as employees are well wishers of his government and want him to rule successfully. He said that employees are not anti government but government is trying to divide and mislead the employees. Referring his meeting with Omar Abdullah two months back, he said that no formation of new Consultation Committee will be accepted as employees have already one. He reminded that since February 2009 after government made an agreement with employees, even in cabinet also, things on ground are unchanged yet.
