‘Five militants were killed in ongoing security forces operations in the Bajure tribal agency of Pakistan on Friday. In Kurram, agency in sectarian clashes killed sixteen people and injured many others,’ official sources have said.
Due to resistance of extremists in the Tapi area of Kohat, two thousand and five hundred children in the area were deprived of polio drops this week, according to Dr. Qazi, the drive against polio is accelerated due to incoming reports of polio cases found in different areas of Kohat. In Swat district, Taliban militants had also stopped teams assigned to give polio drops to children in Swat.
Due to the spread of extremism in tribal areas and settled areas of NWFP, the majority of the moderate people are in a difficult situation. The high price and low availability of health facilities to the public are direct outcomes of extremist resistance. ‘The price of Rooti has increased to 16 rupees per Rooti in Kurram agency, while the same Rooti is available at the price of two rupees in Lahore,’ sources have said.
Monopolies and cartels are behind the price hike a journalist had pointed out before President Asif Ali Zardari during his first press conference after taking oath of his office, ‘The President shall take steps to improve the situation to avoid political set backs to his party. From disruption of supplies and services to stoppage of health facilities to the extremists who are involved, government shall take appropriate steps to meet the menace of extremism,’ sources have said.
