Jammu, August, 07 (Scoop News) – Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand today conducted an extensive tour of his constituency and assess the loss due to recent heavy rain and floods thereof in Khour block in Akhnoor tehsil.

Tara Chand visited flood prone areas of Chhamb constituency where 252 house hold of nearly eight villages namely Garad, Magial Lallu, Magial Avtara, Kharaota, Gigrial, Dhar, Channi Dewano and Platan have been damaged 3 out of which have been completely washed away due to flash floods in Lohakhi Khad and Manawar Tawi.
The Deputy Chief Minister after interacting with the affected people directed CA&PD authorities to provide 35 kg free ration to each affected family immediately and provide LPG cylinders to them. He also issued on spot instruction to Revenue and Rural Development Department authorities to assess the losses to the houses and recommend their cases for assistance under Indra Awas Yojana. On the way, Tara Chand also inspected ongoing flood protection works at villages Dhatyal and Taroti and directed the concerned authorities to speedup the pace of work by increasing the work force. He also asked for digging deep drains to channelize the extra water in irrigated areas so that the crops can be saved from inundation.
Tara Chand also enjoined upon rural development functionaries to take up flood protection works like crates, spurs and bundhs in a big way under MNREGA so that the fertile land can be saved from erosion. He also issued instruction to PWD engineers to repair all the damaged ramps on roads in the area and also instructed to replaced the defunct transformer at village Pangali.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure availability of officers and staff at their headquarter or places of duty and initiate disciplinary action against the non compliant employees. He further impressed upon those officers who are unable to reach the duty should report to the respective DC for instructions and remain connected with their subordinate staff over mobile phones.
