According to a leading news agency Kashmir independent Press (KIP) Shalin was kidnapped on late Friday evening from near his residence in the Nai basti area.He was returning home after playing video game in the near by video parlour when he was kidnapped and later killed.
Public anger against the gruesome murder of the minor child, barely 10 years of age, turned tables against the police as angry mob first blocked the traffic on the national highway and later stormed the Gandhi Nagar police station against the police inaction,KIP said.
Sensing that situation may take an ugly turn district development commissioner MK Dwivedi arrived at the spot to lift the dharna and promised strict action against guilty.
KIP quoting district development commissioner MK Dwivedi ,ordered a high level inquiry in the kidnapping case and also announced an ex-gratia of 1 lakh.
Shouting slogans against the police the local residents lambasted the police for their laxity in the matter.
The angry residents alleged that despite knowing the identity of the kidnappers the police teams failed to rescue the minor child from the custody of the kidnappers till wee hours.
Local residents in the area also alleged that the police was aware of the identity of the kidnappers and under pressure from some political quarters they had released the accused youth initially detained in the case.The local residents also alleged that police have been informed about the activities of these youth in the area as they had made similar attempts to pick minor children but failed to do so.
On Saturday when police failed to contain the anger of the public the house of one of the accused in the same lane was torched by the people before storming it. The police reacted swiftly and called Fire brigade to douse the flames. According to police, the two local youth identified as Dharminder Singh of Nai Basti and Gagan Singh of Gole Gujral have been arrested and further investigations in the case were still going on.
