Former Arkansas governor, Mike Huckabee, had gained victory in the Republican caucuses in Kansas netting him 36 delegates to the Republican National Convention. It was a comfortable victory for Mike Huckabee as he picked up support from many conservatives.
He would come in at first with 60 percent, followed by John McCain with 24 percent, and Texas Representative Ron Paul with 11 percent.
Kris Kobach, the chairman of the Kansas Republican Party says that the results indicate that John McCain still has a long road to go to get the vital factions of the GOP to solidly support him.
Asides from Kansas, there are also Republican contests in Louisiana, Washington state, and Guam. In Louisiana, 47 percent say that they want a candidate who shares their values while 21 percent want a candidate who says what he believes with 20 percent saying they want someone with the right experience.
About three-fourths of GOP voters felt positive about the Bush administration and supported the war going on in Iraq.
In Louisiana, the economy was the number one issue amongst the Republican voters.
1,191 delegates are needed to win the GOP nomination. The day started out as McCain had 709, Huckabee with 163, and Paul with 10. Both Huckabee and Paul are McCain’s only rivals since Mitt Romney had withdrawn from the race.
