According to a list compiled by Forbes magazine, investor mogul and philanthropist Warren Buffet – the recent rescuer of beleaguered firms in the bond market – has topped the list of the world’s richest people.
Buffet displaces, the ubiquitous Bill Gates, who has been synonymous with the largely successful Microsoft Corp. and the world’s richest "main man" for 13 years.
Buffet, who provides generous amounts of money to Gates’ charity, the Biall and Melinda Gates Foundation, amounts to a net worth of $62 billion. The increase in ranking in wealth is attributed to the success of his firm -Birkshire Hathway, most recently trading at $139,000.
Mexican telecoms big-man, Carlos Slim, is a close second on the Forbes’ favorites list of billionaires, totaling approximately $60 billion, while Gates takes the third slot with a somewhat lesser $58 billion – not bad for a guy who retired from Microsoft!
