Isaac Zamora is now in custody after allegedly killing six people and injuring two more in remote Alger, Washington yesterday.
Police say that Isaac Zamora, 28, had a history of mental illness and a criminal record but don’t know exactly what made the young man snap and start shooting neighbors and strangers alike.
The attack started at around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday when police believe that Zamora shot and killed a sheriff’s deputy, identified as Anne Jackson, and four neighbors. He then got into his car and headed towards Insterstate 5 where he wounded two motorists, including a state patrol officer. He claimed a sixth death when he shot and killed another driver on the roadway.
Police began to give chase while Isaac Zamora was driving on Interstate 5 and still firing shots from the vehicle. He eventually turned himself in by driving into the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office where he was arrested.
Police do not know where Isaac Zamora got the gun that he used in the shooting and family members don’t know what set the man off on his violent spree. Zamora is being held at Skagit County Jail.
