Udhampur/Jammu, November 27 (Scoop News) – J&K Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is emerging as one of the best forces in the country adding that measures have been initiated to further modernize and train it as per the present day law and order scenario and militancy threats.
Addressing the Attestation-cum-Passing Out Parade of Police Women in Basic Recruit Training Course at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy here, the Chief Minister congratulated the passing out women cadets for entering in a service crucial to nurture peace, protect the life and property of citizens, curb crimes and maintain law and order for all round progress and development.
He highlighted the role of Police Women as pivotal in extending service to the women population in the State to safeguard and protect their rights.
“While women in police force are second to none in performing professional duties in an efficient manner, they have added responsibility of playing an important role as friends of women”, he added.

“You have to hold gun at one hand to combat militancy and keep lathi (Stick) in another to tackle law and order situations”, he told the Police cadets stressing on proper trainings to deal with the two challenges of different magnitudes. He said Government would provide every assistance and support to Police Department in imparting the necessary training to its personnel and for equipping them properly.
The Chief Minister told the passing out cadets to benchmark in their life the pledge of upholding constitution, rendering the selfless service to the people irrespective of creed, caste or religion and safeguarding rule of law for delivery of justice, the cadets promise under an oath while entering into the police service. “You should honour the oath you have taken and respect the uniform you clad”, he told the passing out cadets.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khuda congratulated the cadets for completing the training and entering into a stupendous service to serve the people of the State.
The DGP underlined the role of women police as an important one to attend to the requirements of women folk and giving them best protection against crimes and undertaking normal policing activities.
Khuda said that three women police stations have been set up in the State while the Department intends to set up such police stations one each in all the districts. “This would help greater access of women to get their grievances registered and attended for speedy action”, he added.

The Chief Minister on the occasion gave away prizes to the best cadets. The award for all round best cadet was received by Pushpa Devi, the award for outdoor best cadet went to Kunzes Dolma while the best indoor cadet award was won by Rasmeet Kour.
As many as, 168 lady cadets passed out completing training in all aspects of police functioning including Ranbir Panel Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Local and Special Laws, Human Rights, Management, Police Practical work, Scientific Aid, Forensic Science, Weapon Handling, Horse Riding, Rock Climbing, Field Craft and Tactics etc. besides the role of police in maintaining law and order.

The Chief Minister presided over the valedictory session of the week long interaction course for senior police officers on practical preparedness for counter terrorism. The course was attended by the senior police officers from all over the country.
Omar Abdullah also inaugurated two residential blocks for police personnel constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.44 crore. MLA Chenani, Krishan Chander Bhagat, senior police officers and Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur were present.
