Kashmir chief stresses for the protection of environment

Srinagar,April 01(Scoop News) -    The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon on Sunday flagged off a grand cycling race at 7 a.m. from Zarbarwan Park which culminated at SKICC. The race was led by the Commissioner, SMC, Dr. G.N Qasba and cyclist from all walks of life participated in the event with great enthusiasm.

            The event was organised with an aim to spread awareness about conservation of environment and save energy by giving importance to cycling   as an alternative ecological and economic means of transport.

            Dr. Samoon said that the motive of the event was to involve the public in the efforts of making the city pollution free and making our environment clean.

            Students from various institutions and general public participated in the event.

            Meanwhile, enroot from Zabarwan to SKICC, a large number of people also welcomed the participants.

          Director Tourism,  Farooq Ahmad Shah, SP Traffic Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, Deputy Director Sports Council, besides the employees of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Lakes and Waterways Development Authority, Forest, Environment, Pollution Control Board and Tourism were also present on the occasion.

            The cycling culminated at SKICC where a cultural programme was organised and refreshments were provided to the participants by the Tourism department.
