June is National LGBT Pride Month and all around the country it shows. From big citiy parades like the one in Denver, CO to smaller towns like Syracuse, NY people in the LGBT community are coming out in huge numbers.
These parades across the country are not there to be in your face but are there to make their message heard, and that is simply we are here!
This year even our President has jumped on board signing a proclomation delcaring June officially LGBT month. In that proclomation he talked about how far the community has come in that past years and the important steps it needs to take to keep moving forward in a positive way.
"The LGBT rights movement has achieved great progress, but there is more work to be done. LGBT youth should feel safe to learn without the fear of harassment, and LGBT families and seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and respect." Obama said in the proclamation
He also mentioned the importance of being safe and getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV regularly.
If you haven’t been out to a LGBT parade before it’s a great time where you can have fun and learn a lot about a culture that is really quite intricate.
