Today is January 20. For many across the world let alone the United States, it is a day of celebration. But, there are still people that are not too thrilled. This is the day in which Barack Obama officially takes the oath of office and becomes the forty-fourth President of the United States. It was Election Day on November 4 in which Obama won by a landslide victory over GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona. Today, it is going to be a major day.
So far, over two million people are estimated to have crowded outside of the United States Capitol. As a result, it is putting a strain on Washington D.C. Still, there are many across the country celebrating Obama’s inauguration. Viewing parties are taking place across the nation. As a result, one does not necessarily have to be in Washington D.C. to be part of the celebrations.
In Los Angeles, California, one such party is taking place at the Staples Center.
In regards to Washington D.C., there are plenty of people gathered on the grounds of the National Mall. The main part of the National Mall stretches between the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument. Those that live in or visited D.C. should know very well what the National Mall looks like.
For those in Washington D.C., they will have to brave through the cold weather. For people celebrating outside of D.C., they may not have to worry about the cold weather. Also, those not in D.C., do not have to worry about transportation problems.
