The citizens of Abyei have urged the members of the Africa Union, and South Sudan delegation to kick out Thabo Mbeki from chairing the mediation process between South Sudan and Sudan talks.
“Our negotiation team to present a petition to the Africa Union Peace Security Council (AUPSC) to return IGAD under the leadership of Mr. Melithe Zinawe, the prime Minister of the Federal Government of Ethiopia to resume its mediation because AUHIP headed by Thabo mediation has been non starter and bias to Khartoum regime” the chairperson of Abyei organization Mr. Deng Mading said in press address in Juba last.
“We wonder how Africa Union accredits Mbeki to chair the South Sudan and Sudan mediation when he was dismissed and fired by his own party the Africa National Congress (ANC) as the president of South Africa” Mading continued.
Abyei community said that they have seen the achievement of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development which was the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) which resulted in the independence of South Sudan, but they have never witness AUHIP achievement since its creation in 2011.
“We urge the AU to withdraw vote of not confidence from Mbeki not to chair the AUHIP between South Sudan and Sudan” Mading on behave of the Abyei citizens was quoted.
Madding also appealed to the leadership of South Sudan negotiating team not to renegotiate the issues of Abyei. “Let them demand the mediators to implement Abyei protocol only. Abyei is not shared area and nothing to be compromised anymore. The ruling of the Arbitration is enough” Mading continued.
He urged South Sudan mediating team not rush to the negotiation if Sudan Army Forces did not withdraw from Abyei region. The AUPSC and United Nations Security Council in a resolution 2046 urged South Sudan and Sudan to withdraw their forces from Abyei, South Sudan withdrew its forces, but Khartoum persists to withdraw from the area up to date.
He said that the people of Abyei have always been the victims of dishonored agreements in Sudan. “Khartoum regime led the President Bashir had invaded Abyei town last year on 21 may 2011, despite of all the agreements signed starting from the comprehensive peace agreement in Naivasha, Abyei commission boundary report permanent court of arbitration in Hague, Kadugli and Addis Ababa 2011” he inserted.
He said that the SAF invasion to Abyei was a clear attempt to abort the independence of South Sudan on the 9th July 2011. But the leadership of the SPLM ruling party has cleverly avoided the confrontation with the invading of the Sudan forces.
He said that the Ngok Dinka, of Abyei lost hundreds of cattle to Arab nomads, and he urged the United Nations Interim Security Forces for Abyei (UNISFA) are not strong to protect the citizens.
He disclosed that there is no sign to show any immediate or intended actions by the government of Sudan to withdraw their troops from Abyei, following the withdrawal of the South Sudan police services.
“If necessary UN should secure such compliance through forceful removal of the Sudan forces from Abyei” Mading said.
The UN Security Council called upon Sudan, South Sudan Africa Union peace and Security Council resolution 2046 urged both Sudan and south Sudan to withdraw their forces from Abyei, so the withdrawal of South Sudan police from Abyei has shown the commitment of South Sudan to peace with Sudan.
