FRIDAY QUICK HITS
CHICAGO CUBS @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
Halladay is the ‘Ace" and the Phillies actually were hitting as they beat the Cubs 7-5 to even the series at a one game each.
Roy Hallady (9-3) became the first nine game winner in the majors and pitched better than good allowing six hits and striking out nine in seven shut-out innings. Halladay left the game with a comfortable seven run lead but watched from the dugout as relievers Jose Contreras and J.C.Romero combined to give up five runs in the eighth before Michael Stutes put out the fire. Antonio Bastardo gets his second save of the season pitching the final out of the game.
Phillies hitters got their hit count to eight with three of them for extra bases. Raul Ibanez had a double and Domonic Brown went long for his second homer of the season. Placido Polanco however did the most damage with his fourth homer of the year with the bases jammed. The grand slam gave Polanco four RBI for the night and 37 for the year.
Carlos Zambrano (5-3) gets the loss for the Cubs giving up seven runs on seven hits, walking seven with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
Aramis Ramirez was one for four with two RBI and Luis Montanez one for one with two RBI in his lone at bat. The Cubs finished the night with five runs on ten hits and four walks. The Phillies pitchers totaled twelve K’s against the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs are 25-37 and the Phillies 38-26.
