The Indian government will be launching its ambitious project ‘Digital India’ on the first day of July. Around 400 eminent entrepreneurs will be attending the launch. Chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani is also invited for the event.
Other corporates that may attend the launch are CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, Chairman of Tata Group, Cyrus Mistry, CEO of Airbus Group,Tom Enders and Chairman of Wipro, AzimPremji.
Varied launches in the event
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will launch the logo of the project with a laser beam.Many agreements related to investment proposals will be inked during the event. Besides, the Prime Minister may also roll out services like e-education, telemedicine and e-health to boost the Digital India initiative.
An official informed, through the medium of e-health, citizens will have access to book their appointments online for OPDs and diagnostic tests. This service will be initially provided for five government hospitals including All India Institute of Medical Sciences and National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences. It will then be advanced to all the government hospitals.
Digital locker service will also be rolled out for the citizens at the hands of the Prime Minister. People will be able to store important documents like identity proof, passport, degree certificates, mark sheets, etc. Besides, Wi-Fi services for 50 tourist spots will also be launched.
It is expected that the launch will see an audience of 10,000 people. 1,500 VVIPs will be a part of this, which includes 50 ambassadors and high commissioners.
Digital India initiative
The project aims at connecting 100 crores people of India, digitally in five years. Rs. 1.13 lakh crores will be spent in India for this project.
The government has launched National Optical Fiber Network in 20,000 village panchayats. By 2016, it wants to give out the facility to 2.5 lakhs panchayats. This will support the entire digital initiative as it will provide high-speed internet connectivity to a large area. The government will also offer broadband services at low rates to economically backward states.
Reliance Industries in the digital industry
Reliance Industries has also laid its focus on digitization. The company is known as a major player in the fields of petroleum, refining, oil and gas exploration, etc. It is in the process of transforming itself into a telecom, retail and e-commerce major.
By the end of this year, the company will roll out its 4G services that will give high-speed internet to its customers. Besides, it will also roll out its e-commerce services to enable anytime, anywhere shopping for the users. The company will try to attract more customers by integrating the two services.
Reliance Industries has already rolled out its online grocery platform, which is still in its pilot phase. This year will see the company launching its online platforms, one dedicated to lifestyle and fashion and the other for business to business verticals.Because of its large capital base and a strong presence in supply and logistics, experts predict that Reliance Industries will emerge as a major player in the digital world, as well.
