Nehru family always maintained relationship with Gujjar community: Vakil

Jammu, January 05 (Scoop News) – Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today highlighted and appreciated the sacrifices of Gujjar and Bakerwal community which they have been all along giving on the border whenever the enemy attacked us or militants made an effort to cross the border. Gujjars and Bakerwals have all always been on the forefront while fighting the enemies by assisting the forces at the cost of their lives on the border without having any weapon in their hand. Vakil was addressing a Gujjar and Bakerwal Conference in Gandhi Nagar Jammu today which was presided over by Sr. Congress leader Choudhary Anwar Phambra. While addressing the gathering Vakil asserted that it is the Congress Party only who always thinks about welfare and upliftment of the Gujjars and it is because of the efforts of the Congress Party that the Central Government supported by congress granted status of ST to Gujjars in the J&K State He said the Congress had backed up the then prime minister on the condition of granting ST status to this community. He blamed other parties for exploiting the sentiments of the Gujjars for their political gains and nothing concrete or practical has been done for the welfare of this community till today by these parties. Vakil said Congress leadership especially Nehru family has always maintained deep relationship with the Gujjar and Bakerwal community and they value the sacrifices of Gujjars for the nation. He expressed concern over non implementation of decisions taken in the different meetings of State Advisory Board of Gujjar and Bakerwal till today and said this shows apathy and non seriousness of government towards the upliftment of Gujjar and Bakerwal Community. He stressed upon the Gujjars to get united and come forward and assert their position in the democratic system to acquire their space and come on the forefront to fight against corruption which is eating into vitals of the state then only miserable condition of the poor people can be changed.

Mr. Vakil expressed concern over neglecting the Gujjar areas of the State on the development sector and appealed Chief Minister to take personal interest in the development of the areas where the Gujjars and Bakerwals live. He said money is not problem as the centre is providing liberal funding in every sector with the aim to improve the socio-economic condition of the poor people of the State and especially the people living in far flung areas, added Vakil.

Addressing the convention Ex. MP and Sr. Congress leader Janak Raj Gupta said that Congress has always advocated for equitable development of all the three regions of the State as it will strengthen the bond of unity and integrity. He expressed concern over the revelations made by Ex. PSC Member and demanded immediate enquiry into the matter.
