Chicago Illinois. On Tuesday the Oakland Athletics have activated from the 15 day disabled list second baseman Nick Punto. Punto was eligible to come off the 15 day disabled list on Tuesday.
Punto has not played for the Athletics since early August due to an injury to his right hamstring. The Athletics are currently in second place in the American League Western Division eight games behind the leader of their division the Los Angeles Angels.
The Athletics are currently playing a four game series versus the Chicago White Sox at U S Cellular Field in Chicago. Punto has been playing baseball in the Major Leagues since he made his debut with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2001.
Punto has also played in the Major Leagues with the Minnesota Twins, St Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers before he signed a one year contract with the Athletics before the start of the 2014 Major League Baseball season,
Punto is better known for being a great defense infielder. His batting average is not exactly going to scare Athletics opponents but Punto is useful as a mentor to the younger players on the Athletics baseball team.
If the 2014 regular baseball ended today, the Athletics would play in the one game wild card playoff game versus the Detroit Tigers.
