In an interesting move for a U.S. president, unprecedented in all of U.S. history, the President of the United States appeared last night on Jay Leno’s "Tonight Show."
Perhaps the President’s decision had innocent motivations, however, it does appear given the timing of such a historic decision the motivations were far more "political," than simply a chance to grab some free air time and chat with Jay.
Mr. Obama touched on the controversy surrounding the recent granting by his Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, of millions of dollars from the U.S. Treasury under the terms of the September bailout for executive bonuses and compensation. He related his "outrage" and anger that such monies had been appropriated in such a manner, however neglecting to state that he was a potent force behind both the original bill in September as a Senator and candidate for the presidency, and also for the recent stimulus package which has provided additional taxpayer jobs for mostly the construction and computer industry for upgrades in federal office buildings, but hardly addresses the real woes in the U.S. economy at this time.
During the appearance, it was clear Mr. Obama was using this opportunity to again display his charm and charisma for the television viewing audience. However, in the process made one gaffe which has been the subject of much media attention, a rather flippant comment made with respect to his bowling ability likening it to that of a member of the Special Olympics team.
At this point I am wondering whether that "gaffe" was unintentional at all, and maybe rather pointedly made in order to again divert the media and America’s attention from the issue and conspiracy that is more than apparent in this recent Washington deception.
The man has a rather high IQ from all reports. And appears he is using that intelligence to the max in both his appearance and folksy conversation with Jay, and the spins and poison pills he continues to feed the American public.
