Painting competion for disaster preparedness held

Srinagar, August 30 (Scoop News) – In connection with disaster preparedness, the Divisional Disaster Management Authority, Kashmir in collaboration with Department of Youth Services and Sports, organized an on spot painting competition for school children at Government Arts Emporium Garden, here today. The theme selected was Disaster preparedness. As many as 300 students from 35 educational institutions of Srinagar district participated in the competition.


Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon who was the chief guest on the occasion while speaking stressed for adopting the measures for better management and preparedness during the disasters. He said that about 8 lakh school children are being imparted education in different educational institutions.


Regarding the preparedness for disaster management, the Divisional Commissioner said that Disaster Management Authorities have already been established in all the districts, headed by the concerned Deputy Commissioners. He also emphasized for making the school children aware about various techniques to be adopted for mitigating the impact of natural disasters.


Among others, Director Floriculture Kashmir, Sunil Misri, Director Youth Services & Sports Jai Pal Singh, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Kashmir, Ms. Neelofar, Secretary General J&K Red Cross Society, Feroze Ahmed, Executive Director, JK Health Voluntary Association, A.M. Mir, HoD Disaster Management IMPA Prof. G.M. Dar, Coordinator Disaster Management Aamir Ali, Regional Director Pollution Control Board AM Dar, Deputy Controller Civil Defence Rafiq Ahmed, Commandant SDRF Mehraj Ahmed, Social activist Nazir Benazir Roma Wani, Vice President Bharat Scouts and Guides, Muzafar Tramboo Dist Sports Officer besides social workers were present on the occasion. 300 children form 35 school sparticipate in teh first ever on spot painting competiotion on disaster preparedness. Mementos and cash awards sponsored by Kehwa Radio Taxi were distributed among the students who excelled during the on spot painting competition. M/s Kanwal Spices provide drinking water to all the participants. The programem was held under the Urban Risk Reduction Project for Srinagar.
