Jammu, January 25, (Scoop News)-Panun Kashmir today urged the Government of India to rethink- and recast its Pakistan Policy as well as its policy on Jammu and Kashmir before it is too late.
Dr Ajay Chrungoo Chairman Political Affairs,Omkar Nath Trisal Senior Community Leader and Kuldeep Raina General Secretary Panun Kashmir in Joint Press Conference in Jammu told reporters that the seizure of huge quantities of narcotics from a truck commissioned to carry trade items from Pakistan to India across the Line of Actual control has raised serious questions about the entire character of Cross LOC trade flaunted as one of the successful component s of the ‘peace’ engagement with Pakistan.
They said that the detention of scores of Indian drivers by the Pakistani government as a response to the arrest of the Pakistani driver, in whose truck Brown sugar worth crores was recovered, is in fact a very eloquent repudiation of the peace process which India claims it is pursuing with Pakistan.
Pakistani government has so many times in the recent past repudiated and rejected the Peace Process with India. For the purpose it has used its Parliament, various international fora as well as acts of terrorism inside the state and aggression along the LOC.,Leaders said.
They said that Indian proclivity not to see this is not being recognized as India’s commitment to peace but as its weakness to stand up to challenges which endanger peace. It is getting reflected as helplessness of Government of India and also as the successful impact of stranglehold which Pakistan believes it has on Indian policy making.
The leaders of Panun Kashmir said that they have no hesitation in saying that the Policies of Government of India on Pakistan and Jammu Kashmir have been counterproductive. These policies have allowed the democratic process in the state of Jammu and Kashmir to transform into a subversive space for Pakistan. Democratic mobilization in the State has become synonymous with secessionist mobilization.
Mainstream democratic forces have not even attempted to mobilize public opinion against a regressive and fascist secessionist campaign particularly in Kashmir valley. They have in fact conferred a veto to separatist regimes by taking up a consistent position that peace will not be achieved in the state unless India agrees to change its position on Jammu and Kashmir. The entire elected government apparatus, voluntarily, agrees to call itself as a mere arrangement to run day to day affairs of bread and butter.
The policy of Government of India on Jammu and Kashmir has by and large undermined all popular resistance against fundamentalism, terrorism and separatism. It has converted the entire pro- India peoples ‘constituency in the state as expendable. It has relegated the pro-India opinion in the state as a problem area rather than a national asset.
The existing policy of Government of India has insulated the communal and fundamentalist campaigns in the state. It has created space for expansion of Islamist radicalization. The Pan Islamic mobilization has only gained in strength and influence in the state. Attacks and intimidation of Hindu and Sikh minorities living in Kashmir valley, every now and then, only reveal the fascist face of the Muslim communal order ruling the roost in the valley. The spread of radicalization ad separatist sentiment into parts of Jammu has attained new stridency.
The entire security apparatus in the State is being treated with political contempt. The campaign of casting doubts and aspersions on Army has attained an alarming momentum. The new instability staring on the face of the state in the light of US withdrawal from Afghanistan does not seem to be a matter of concern for Government s in the state and the Centre. Instead cornering and debunking Army in the state has almost become a political addiction. How to convince or coerce the defense establishment , particularly the Army to accept to the removal of AFPSA has become the obsessive indulgence of not only the ruling party but certain segments of leadership at the helms in New Delhi.
Last but not the least the policy of government of India has allowed the Separatist establishment in the state to become an extra-constitutional arbiter of all political and administrative decision making in the state. Fundamentalist Separatism in the state has remained alive and kicking when it should have died a natural death.
Panun Kashmir rejects the claims of government of India that its handling of Pakistan or the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir has contributed to peace and national interests. Panun Kashmir believes that it has on the contrary jeopardized both peace and the national interests.
