The month of July has been chosen as Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome Awareness month. For those who are suffering or have suffered with PTLS this awareness campaign is long overdue. Women have been plagued with symptoms far too long while trying to get those in the medical field to recognize and treat this syndrome.
With the Internet allowing women from all over the world to come together and communicate new doors have been opened. Women and their families are letting the world know that Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome is very real and women are suffering all over the globe.
Symptoms of PTLS can be debilitating. Some symptoms are heavy menstrual bleeding, irregular menstrual cycles, mood swings, anxiety, depression, weight gain and painful intercourse. There are many more symptoms but these seem to be the most prevalent.
Women will seek help from their physicians. Medical tests will be ordered to make sure there are no underlying conditions that could be causing these problems. In most cases all tests will come back within normal limits. There is no valid answer as to why this is happening. Women will be prescribed various medications for symptoms. When physicians are asked about Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome the answer is that there is no evidence to prove that this syndrome is real.
If PTLS is not real how is it that so many women are suffering with the same symptoms after tubal ligation? How is it that everything was fine up until the point of having their tubes tied and then their hair begins thinning and changes begin to take place? How is it that so many women can be suffering from the same thing and yet the medical community does not want to believe it is happening?
Women are going to be heard and they want their lives back. They want to be treated with dignity and not told the symptoms are in their heads. They do not want to be fighting depression because they have told their story so many times and the medical community does not want to listen.
Is there a cure for Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome? Although not enough data has been collected to complete a study, the leading tubal reversal center has been reporting great results. Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center patients are asked at certain intervals following their tubal reversal surgery how they are progressing. Over 90% have reported improvement and are determined to get the word out about Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome.
