President of India to visit Leh tomorrow

New Delhi/Jammu, August 31 (Scoop News) – The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil will be visiting Leh tomorrow.

According to release issued today from Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi said that during her stay, the President will tour the affected areas and meet the people at the relief camp.


The President will also be briefed by civil and military officials about the ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations following the cloudburst earlier this month. The President will be distributing shawls and sweaters to the affected people in the Camp. Later the President will address the Defence Personnel in Leh, release said.

It may be mention here that Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh had visited the district on August 17 and announced relief package of Rs 125 crore.

Prior to Dr Singh’s visit, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, Rahul Gandhi, Minister of State in PMO, Prithviraj Chavan and Minister of State for Defence, M Raju took stock of the death and destruction caused by the natural calamity.
