Even if the general reaction to Barack Obama’s presidential win has been positive, a racist backlash has taken place in the wake of the results from Election Day.
Most of the people and nations have received in a positive or neutral way the inspirational figure like Obama become President., as it was evident that people from all backgrounds, races, cultures and religions were proud of the historical significance of the United States electing a leader of African descent after the turbulent history of Blacks in America.
Some Republican crowds were drilled into believing that Barack Obama was a terrorist, communist, Muslim sleeper and traitor. The campaign was full of racial undertones, from Rush Limbaugh’s racist rants about Colin Powell’s endorsement, to Sarah Palin turning a blind eye to someone yelling the N-word at a rally and some would continue their manifest toward the President-elect and his supporters. Recently, a few racists and extremists have been lashing out.
The string has been focused throw disturbing firebombings, assaults, and incidents of vandalism on the African-Americans. A Black church in Springfield, Massachusetts was burned down on election night. and a Black family near Pittsburgh had their car torched right outside their home while watching Obama deliver his victory speech on TV. The car was painted “Obama” across the trunk.
In New York , a 17 year-old Muslim, African-American male immigrant, was beaten with baseball bats by a group of White men who repeatedly yelled, “Obama’ and in North Carolina State University in Raleigh, four students admitted spray painting an entire campus walkway with racist threats including “Shoot Obama” and “Kill that nigger.”
The terrorism has continued throw the radical racist extremists and our reaction must be as seriously as it it regarding the attacks from radical Islamic extremists, because the fight against racism is not over.
