We should have regular sleep but also deep sleep, lest we will develop diabetes.Recent researches in the University of Chicago proved it.
Just three nights of bad sleep is enough to reduce dramatically the body’s ability to process glucose and raise the risk of diabetes a new study revealed.Suppressing the deep sleep for three nights in a row decreased the glucose tolerance of young, healthy adults as much,as if they had gained a weight of 8 kg to 13 kg.
That the body’s ability to process glucose wouldf adjust to chronic sleep deprivation, it is likely that the poor sleep pattern in the elders and the obese people play a role in the development of diabetes.
Deep sleep is necessary to have a mental clarity and the physical well-being.The Researcher Eve Van Cauter, as per his study undertaken on nine lean healthy volunteers between the age group of 20 and 31, had deep sleep between 1100 pm and 0730 am in the morning. They were undisturbed for the first two nights, but thereafter disturbances created by artificial sound waves whenever they fell into deep sleep. The sound reduced their deep sleep and led them to a lighter sleep.
After conducting the above test, those whose sleeps were disturbed were found to have reduction in the insulin sensitivity, which meant they needed more insulin to dispose of the same amount of glucose. But insulin secretion did not go up in eight of the subjects. As a result they showed 23 % increase in the blood glucose levels.
Therefore, it is important to have regular and deep sleeps to prevent the onset of diabetes in us.
