Strongly condemning the stone throwing incident in which a citizen was killed at Batmaloo today Mehbooba has said this is yet another tragic reminder of the crisis the state was fast slipping into grave crisis.
in a statement here today she said,“This macabre incident once again underlines the grave crisis the state is facing and the anarchy the present government caused through its acts of omission and commission”.
Mehbooba said the unfortunate death of Shafiq in Batmaloo today is only the latest in an unending series of tragedies that witnessed one or the other Kashmiri’s life lost in violence. Be it the killing of a beggar in Handwara or of another innocent in Kellar, an NC worker in Hajin or the killing of Zubair and a cable operator in Sopore, they provide a telltale picture of anarchy, insensitivity and a government that has failed both on prevention and accountability fronts.
“It has used all methods ranging from slapping of PSA on teenagers to resort to counter stoning that killed a youth Zubair, in Sopore only this month but has failed miserably” she said.
Referring to the complete chaos that marks the response of the government to the unrest among people, Mehbooba said instead of addressing its root cause, the Omar Abdullah dispensation tries to use every failure into a media opportunity. In its bid to contain the fallout of the brazen human rights violations the government is trying to direct the guilt back to the society rather than owning up its failures and putting its act together.
The PDP chief said instead of taking action against the perpetrators of human rights the government has been training its guns on those who seek such action. While that trend was set in Shopian it has now become a norm as in Keller case which is the latest in which the demonstrators are being persecuted without trying to reach the accused in murder.
