Chib said that Indian Government has sanctioned Rs 148 crore for engaging 8000 volunteers through Nehru Yuva Kendras (NYK) in J&Kfor various nation building activities. This was revealedHe was addressing the State Advisory Committee meeting of youth programme.
The meeting resolved to make registration of the volunteers at Panchayat level and approved the affiliation of the volunteers with the Nehru Yuva Kendra. The Prime Minister is being approached to formally launch the programme in May this year.
Referring to the role to be played by the volunteers, he said that a strong contingent of them would be deployed for cleanings and maintenance of world famous Dal and Nagin Lakes, creating awareness about environment, National Mission for Female Literacy, Health and Sanitation and Disaster Management besides acting as tourist guides to promote adventure, leisure and pilgrim tourism in the State.
Chib sought close coordination among the concerned departments to ensure the speedy registration of the youth for effective implementation of the Scheme. He asked for selection of talented youth so that the purpose of the scheme can be achieved.
Dwelling on other agenda points, the Minister laid stress on organizing more and more sports, cultural and adventure activities and hoped that these would help in making youth disciplined and dedicated to shoulder the social responsibilities.
The issue regarding construction of buildings for Nehru Yuva Kendra in the State and the district headquarters was also discussed in the meeting.
It was also decided in the meeting that the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghathan, J&K Chapter would organise a National Integration Camp (NIC) on February 22 and 23, 2010 at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall, Budgam and
