10 Militants Paraded For Threatening To Blow Up Oil Installations

The State Security Services (SSS) on Thursday in Abuja paraded 10 suspected members of the Niger Delta Youth Coalition for allegedly threatening to blow up oil installations in the Niger Delta.

The suspects were said to have made the threat through a letter to President Umaru Yar’Adua.

In the letter signed by their National Coordinator, Emmanuel Ogba, the suspected militants reportedly threatened to bar National Assembly members from touring the creeks if the Presidency failed to release N250 billion to them as a compensation.

According to SSS Director of Operations, Noble Samson, upon receipt of the letter dated November 5, security operatives swooped on them and prevailed on them to be law abiding.

In another letter also signed by Ogba on Thursday, the suspects were said to have apologised to government for their action and pledged to let peace reign in the region.

The letter reads: "I want to on behalf of the Niger Delta Youth Coalition, hereby apologise for our letter written by the organisation to Mr. President dated November 5, 2007.

"We are sorry to have used those insulting words in the letter. We are not in opposition to the government or intend to blow any pipeline nor kill any senator as quoted in the letter".
