Peshawar: The fighting between two sects of Kurram Agency tribal area in Pakistan was continued nonstop on its third day raising the number of its casualties to nearly 100 dead and around 160 wounded among who are included security forces and civilians.
Around 84 people were killed last April in a sectarian violence erupted after a religious procession was attacked in Para Chenar. The violence, which had caused imposition of curfew for weeks, went on for a period and ended with a peace agreement between the two parties.
The current fighting started on Friday which is still continuing with using heavy weapons from both sides against each other. Officials have confirmed the killing of nearly 100 people, at least 13 of whom are security forces. And around 160 people are wounded in this period.
Sources from the area have said that two gunship helicopters had reached Kurram where they fired shells on the positions of the fighters, who are killing each other in the name of religion.
Government has changed the political agent of the area and a jirga is working to make a ceasefire yet residents of the area, who are facing shortage of food, water and electricity, believe that authorities were completely failed to handle the situation and stop the bobsledding.
Sectarian violence is very common in Pakistan as thousands of people are killed in bomb blasts, suicide attacks and fighting between many sectarian groups in the name of Shia/Sunni, Mushrik/Mwahhed and others.
