$10,000,000 Lotto Ticket: Final Gift: Financial Security

A twenty year tradition on Nov. 1,2008 was Donald Peters final gift to his wife and family. Donald was a retired factory worker and married to his wife Charlotte for 59 years.

Donald woud go on a ten week stretch and buy his Lotto tickets. The two Connecticut Lottery tickets he bought on Nov.1at the local 7-11 store were for the drawing on Dec. 2,2008. Later that November day Donald suffered a fatal heart attack and died while working in his yard at his Danbury Connecticut home.

His wife Charlotte had put the tickets aside with some others as she and her family coped with his sudden death. She almost discarded the tickets but on Friday she had the tickets checked while in a grocery store and they told her she had  a winner. Charlotte had no idea what she won, $6 million was the first number but the lottery officals informed her it was $10 million.

She has 60 days to decide whether to take a $6 million pre tax lump payment or 21 yearly payments of $477,300 each.

A new car maybe for Charlotte, a small one she will stick to, even though she always wanted a Corvette and maybe a trip to Mohegan Sun a Connecticut Casino. She will sit and think about it for awhile.

The irony is what the Peters children think their father woud have appreciated. Brian Peters one of their three children said "He would be very mad, he just passed away and she won a lot of money" "He would say ‘Figures.’"
