Rescue operation suspended for night
Leh/Srinagar August, 06 (Scoop News) -The death toll in Cloudbust at Leh has reached 112 and more than 400 are injured.Rescue operation was suspended for the night and will resume early in the morning.

A massive Cloud burst took place in Leh town’s Choglumsar area in the preceding night, resulting in rains, mudslides and flash floods.Police said today.
Police said in a statement today that the number of houses were completely destroyed. The worst affected by the flash flood is the old Leh city where the main hospital building, bus stand and telephone exchange are submerged.
Police, Army and other security agencies are carrying relief and rescue operations on spot. So far 112 dead bodied have been recovered form debris while reportedly many people are missing. The DGP has ordered temporary rehabilitation of the dislocated families in District Police Lines (DPL) Leh. The DGP has also ordered free Langar facilities for the affected people. The police has organized a community Langar in DPL Leh for the affected families. Hundreds of the affected families have been provided food.
Meanwhile defence spokesperson said that the Indian Army troops activated their Disaster Management Cell and commenced rescue operations on a war footing. The primary objective of the operations is to save maximum possible life and property from further damage and to extricate stranded civilians from isolated areas. So far several hundred personnel have been rescued by the Army despite own losses. The rescue operations are being conducted in coordination with civil administration, putting own safety at stake.
More than 15 Army columns have been deployed for rescue purposes. Detachments of the formation located at various places on the highway, too, were activated to provide relief and shelter to stranded civilians and foreign tourists. All aid was extended to evacuate them to safer areas, using Army vehicles.
While the priority of the relief operations of the Army is on saving life and property from further damage, succor is being provided in the form of food,
drinking water, medicines and other assistance, to the affected. Dozers and other earthmoving equipments of the Army were also pressed into operations to clear the slide areas and restore communications at the earliest.

Working in close coordination senior officers of the Army conducted reconnaissance of the affected area and visited the affected sites. They gave assurances to the civilian population that the Army will provide all assistance to the civil population to restore the situation at the earliest.
