Kabul, Afghanistan:The NATO force claims the responsibility for killing 12 Afghan civilians in the ongoing operation against Taliban insurgents.
The NATO force claimed the responsibility for the killing of 12 Afghan civilians in Nad Ali district of Helmand province, when a rocket missed its target, (ISAF) said in a statement.
The rockets were launched at a system, (HIMARS) High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, fired two rockets that missed the target and hit a civilian area, some 300 metres off their target, the statement said.
General Stanely McChrystal, ISAF commander, apologized for this tragic incident.
The original target of HIMARS rockets was a compound where the insurgents were firing on ISAF and Afghan troops, that injured an Afghan soldier and an ISAF service member.
General McChrystal commands 113, 000 US and NATO troops in Afghanistan fighting against the Taliban insurgents.
On the other hand, 15, 000 US, NATO and Afghan troops are taking part in the operation Mushtarak, in central Helmand.
