The Medical Superintendent Lal Ded Hospital in Srinagar (Kashmir) has denied the press report carried by a section of newspapers regarding stoppage of cold surgery (non-emergent cases) by an order of the Medical Superintendent, describing it as false and not based on facts. "There is no such order under which the cold surgery was stopped due to non-availability of essential material", he said and added that no patient has been refused admission at anytime for any surgery in the hospital. He strongly refuted the report and said that hospital is functioning properly and conducting surgeries regarding the gynaecology and obstetrics’ including cold surgeries.
The supplies, he said regarding surgical material and other drugs are regular and there is no dearth of any material or medicines in the hospital. The superintendent said that even during the period of disturbances and curfew, the hospital functioned as usual and had enough material and medicines to cope up with the requirement.
Giving details of the performance of LD Hospital from April 2008, till now he said that about 68000 out door patients and 18260 indoor patients have been treated in the hospital adding that more than 9200 deliveries have taken place in the hospital during the same period whileas major surgeries account for 7189 and minor 3812.
In the month of July 14900 OPD and 3448 IPD received treatment in the hospital and the births of 1866 babies was recorded. He further said that in the month of August 2008 as many as, 5355 OPD and 2900 IPD patients were provided medicare whileas 1130 babies were born during the month in the hospital.
As many as, 2381 major and 1161 minor surgeries were performed in the hospital during the month of July and August, the Superintendent added that in the month of September 2008 so far, 7500 OPD, 1914 IPD patients have been treated in the hospital and 816 babies were born whereas 855 major and 399 minor surgeries were performed during the same period.
The Superintendent said presently there is no dearth of medicines or surgical material in the hospital. The supplies are regular upto the mark and as per demand and requirement of the hospital.
He said that life saving drugs including antibiotics, surgical material, I.V. fluids, disposable drip sets, syringes, X-ray films, infant feeding tubes, Suturing needles etc are abundantly available in the hospital.
