150 budding scientists,85 in Kashmir,65 in Jammu presented science talent awards on’Earth Day’ c

 

           Srinagar/ Jammu – As a part of ‘Earth Day’ celebration, J&K State Council for Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology organized science talent promotion scholarship distribution ceremony at SKICC, in Srinagar and also at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM),in Jammu. Science talent promotion scholarships are awarded to the students for encouraging them to pursue science subjects. The students are selected through an objective type written test conducted by Science and Technology Council. The scholarships were distributed to 10+2, +12 and PG level students.

 

The certificates were distributed to 85 select students in Kashmir by Dr. Arun Kumar, principal Secretary to Government, Science and Technology department.

            Dr. Arun Kumar, Principal Secretary to Government, Science and Technology was the chief guest on the occasion. Professor (Dr.) A.H. Zargar, Director, SK Institute of medical Sciences, Soura was also present.

            Dr. Arun Kumar while congratulating the students, stressed for inculcating scientific temperament among the students. He said that science involves systematic and organized enquiry into the natural world and its phenomenon which in turn promotes new and innovative ideas by involving young minds. He advised the parents to provide all kind of support to their children for choosing a career option of their own interest.

            Dr. Arun Kumar requested the parents not to force the children for opting a field not of their choice. He briefed the gathering about the career option beyond conventional streams of engineering and medical science like bio-medical engineering, genetic engineering, bio-informatics etc. He asked the students to develop a questioning attitude which will inculcate in them a culture of inquisitiveness.

            Prof. Zargar, on this occasion, emphasized the that there is no boundary for science. “Science is a quest of knowledge and needs to be followed with dedication and zeal”. Dr. Zargar advised the students to develop innovative attitude.

 

        In Jammu, J&K State Council for Science & Technology, 65 meritorious students of Jammu were awarded scholarship in a function organized at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM),

         Principal Secretary, Science & Technology and IT, Dr. Arun Kumar was the chief guest while Scientist ‘G’IIIM, Jammu, Dr. A. K. Suri was the guest of honour.

         Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kumar lauded the efforts of the State Science and Technology Council for encouraging students to participate in the talent hunt programme. He said that science involves systematic and organized enquiry into the natural world and its phenomenon, which in turn promotes new and innovative ideas, by involving young minds.
