18 died in a tragic plane crash in Nepal
In a tragic plane crash at the Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, Nepal, 18 people died instantly on October 8, 2008. The 9N AFE Twin Otter Plane of the Yeti Airlines was carrying 19 passengers from Kathmandu to Lukla airport which included 14 tourists, 2 guides and 3 plane crew. Miraculously, the Plane pilot Surrendra Kuwar survived the crash with fatal injuries.
The plane had taken off from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu at 6:51AM local time for the Lukla Airport where the plane crashed at 7:31 AM during the landing procedure. Though the cause of the crash has been reasoned low visibility but a commission has been formed by the government of Nepal to investigate the issue.
The rescue operations started from the early morning after the news broke out.
