185 Dalit Christians reconvert to Hinduism in Tamil Nadu

It is unfortunate to note that the people who embrace a religion in search of salvation sometimes get dissatisfied with the faith they embrace and reconverts to the original religion. When we proceed to analyze the reasons for such conversions, it is not the religion that is at fault but the authorities concerned who are at the helm of affairs of a particular religion are the driving force behind such reconversions.

There is a saying that ‘All roads lead to Rome’. Similarly it is the ultimate aim of all the religions to show the way for salvation. When the religious authorities concerned failed in their primary duty of guiding the followers of a religion towards salvation, naturally they get dissatisfied with their religion and seek their remedy elsewhere.

Besides, it is generally said and believed that a person attains salvation or nirvana only after his death. But till such time a follower of the religion believes that he or she should be treated in a manner befitting to his status, in the absence of which, naturally a person gets disgruntled upon the faith that he follows and seeks a change.

Recently, alleging discrimination in churches as many as 185 Dalit Christian families reconverted to Hinduism in the presence of several Hindu pontiffs at a grand religious function in Thirunelveli on Monday, the 117 th birth anniversary of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar.

While the rituals started with Ganapathi homam at the break of dawn, the organizers, the Hindu Makkal Katchi, headed by Mr.Arjun Sampath, garlanded the statue of  Dr.Ambedkar, the champion of Dalits before the day-long, ‘return- to –parent religion’ceremony started off.

Sengol adheenam of the age-old Sengol mutt in Thirunelveli, Swami Sadhasivananda, State organizer of the Tamil Nadu Hindu Monks council, state secretary Swami Ragavananda, Sadhu Vidhyendra of Ramakrishna Tapovanam among others graced the occasion, endorse their reconversion and gave reconverts Hindu names according to their choice. Padha Poojas were also performed  for those who embraced Hinduism.

The organizers also adopted a resolution urging the government to bear the expenses for notifying their names in the gazette.
