Relatives seek speedy justice for murder of two youth

CHITRAL : Family members of two young men who were found beheaded and dumped into the river in the Kotai village of Arando in lower Chitral a few days ago held a protest demonstration in the Drosh town demanding severe punishment to the killers.
The protesters called upon the chief of the army staff, the chief justice of Pakistan, the inspector general of the KP police and the provincial government to hand over the case to the military court for the speedy trial and exemplary punishment to the culprits.
The bodies of Shafiur Rehaman, son of Hakim Jan, 25, and Shah Faisal, son of Gul Zaman, 19, were recovered from the riverside on February 18. The victims had been missing from their houses five days earlier for four to five days. Their families had reported their disappearance to the local police.
Addressing the protesters the brother and an uncle of the victims said the deceased were orphans and had no land dispute or any enmity with any group. They said they had gone to the house of the suspects and due to the absence of transportation stayed there for a night. But at night, their hosts slaughtered the young men and then chopped off their heads, legs and other body parts.
They said the culprits later put the body parts in three bags along with heavy stones and threw them into the river. They thanked the army soldiers and the police for recovering the bodies from the river.
The wailing women relatives of the deceased told media persons that they were poor people and the tragedy had destroyed their lives.
Two of the protesters, Dilaram Khan and Zakirullah, alleged that the Arndo police lodged an FIR under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC ) but did not add the terrorism section in the case.
They appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan and the chief justice Peshawar High Court to take suo motu action in the case. They also demanded that section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 should be added to the murder case.
When contacted, the Arando police said they had already arrested seven people who confessed to their involvement in the crime. The police claimed that the young men had been killed over a land dispute.
