VVS Laxman said, "Everyone had expected us to loose from the follow on but Rahul Dravid and me had that partnership on the fourth day and from their on things changed for the country.
"After this match everyone had the belief that irrespective of what situation we are in, we can come out of it and turn things around. This Test match showed and gave us the confidence." said Laxman.
"The problem was that I was asked to open the innings and whenever I failed I use to be dropped. It really use to hurt but the time between 1996-2000 toughened me up," he added. Laxman said, "I always wanted to become a doctor like my mother and dad. In 11th I took medicine and wanted to continue in the same profession and be like my dad. My father was always my role model." However, life took a completely different turn.
"He scored 98/100 in science in 10th and he had a dilemma either to serve the country with bat or with stethoscope like his parents. He took 2-3 days to decide and after that he came back to me and told me that he wants to serve the country with bat," said Laxman’s father, Dr Shantaram.
"Once I decided to go ahead with cricket I decided to give myself 5 years (from 17-22 years) to make it to international team and if that doesn’t happen then I go back to medicine and study to become a doctor. So from 17, I was really focused with cricket as my only life," said Laxman.
"It was like a dream come true. Every kid in India wants to play for the country and my dream was fulfilled when I made my debut in 1996." Said Laxman.
"It was very unfortunate that I missed the World Cup and it came as a rude shock to me. The selection was done and I was not picked. It was definitely the lowest point in my career," he said.
"Whenever I look at Laxman he reminds me solidity and stability and brings calmness to the dressing room," said Rahul Dravid.
Virender Sehwag said. "I have never seen him low, down or sad. I have not seen him angry or replying back to someone. He is always smiling no matter you joke with him or say something to him. We call him the SAI Baba."
"It was a very satisfying moment of my life because I come from a family where my mom and dad are doctors and there was stress on academics.
100th for sure gave me a lot of happiness and satisfaction," said Laxman.
