The UN representative office in Sri Lanka has planned to try again to evacuate hundreds of seriously wounded civilians from the northern part where heavy government-LTTE battles continue.
According to UN reports, at least 50 of the wounded are children.
Global media reports state that almost 250,000 civilians are still trapped between confrontation lines.
Meanwhile, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged all parties to respect the human rights of civilians and allow an easy movement of civilians towards safe areas.
