26 killed in latest Kenyan unrest

At least 26 people were killed in tribal fighting in Kenya’s western Rift Valley province, police said Saturday.

"Now, we have 26 dead in both police attacks and machete killings," a police commander, who did not to be named, said while talking to a French news agency.

The commander said the victims were killed in tribal fighting between rival communities in Nakuru township’s shantytowns.

Tens of thousands have been displaced in the volatile agricultural province that is home to several of Kenya’s 42-plus tribes.

Around 800 people have been killed and some 260,000 others displaced across the country since disputed elections on December 27 touched off a wave of deadly rioting and ethnic killings.
