Jammu & Kashmir: World TB Day was observed in Kashmir valley by organizing a
function at Institute of Hotel Management, Rajbagh by Health Department. Chief Guest
was Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Mohammad Amin Wani while Deputy
Director Health, Dr. Gurcharan Singh, CMO Srinagar, doctors and students were
present on the occasion.

Director, Health Services, Kashmir in his speech said that
all members of society should come forward with a mission for eradication of TB.
He said that under RNTCP, 26221 TB patients were treated and were provided DOTs
among which 20228 were recovered from dreadful disease. He said that 1325 DOT
centres were established in Kashmir valley for treatment of TB patients and for
this purpose 1640 DOT providers are working besides 25 TB Units have also been
set up in valley. He said that a high tech laboratory will also be established
in valley adding that 243045 tests were conducted for the TB and this year 262
new cases were identified.
Director impressed upon para medical staff for conducting
survey in far flung areas of valley and to provide awareness among common
people. He said that facilities to fight TB have been kept available in all health
centres. On the occasion, a documentary film on subject prepared by DTO
Srinagar in collaboration with prominent social worker and poet, Ayub Sabir was
also released. The best speakers over the subject were awarded certificates and
mementoes.
It is important to mention that Dr M. A Wani despite being
from far flung area of Valley has set record of achieving records of excellence
through out his career. He has served in different streams of medical science and
accomplished his goal successfully. Dr. Wani is young and possesses lot of energy
to serve mankind especially poor people of J & K, to which government seems
have decided to extend his service tenure, as per reports. As per official
sources, Dr Wani is supposed to achieve superannuation ob March 31, if his service
is not extended.
