Kathmandu, Nepal, May 16 2010: spreading the awareness of HIV/AIDS, Dristi Nepal a local Non-Governmental Organization working under the HIV /AIDS awareness project of FHI/USIAD /ASHA organized a brief ceremony to mark the “International AIDS Candlelight Day.”
Dristi Nepal representative said, “Dristi Nepal has been working in the field to address the issues, advocate, care and treatment and to prevent female drug users from drug-led HIV/AIDS and help them reintegrate them into their societies. It’s a woman drugs rehabilitation center, where we have taken the initiative to spread the awareness and help the woman in need. Programs like these not only help in creating awareness but also helps the community to bind together to move ahead and fight this deadly disease.”
“This day is not only marked as a day for remembering the unfortunate soul who lost their lives due to HIV/AIDS but also signifies that we should honor and respect those who are infected with HIV/AIDS and help them recuperate with their lives with love and support. It also signifies the drive of human strength to fight back against this deadly disease and we all need to work in better coordination to push this disease out of our community. We all should contribute in every possible way to spread awareness and help save lives” added he.
Started in 1983, the International Candlelight Day takes place every third Sunday in May and is dedicated and honored to the people who lost their lives due to HIV/ AIDS.
